EMERGENCY OVERVIEW

RISK

POTENTIAL HEALTH EFFECTS

ACUTE HEALTH EFFECTS

SWALLOWED

Although ingestion is not thought to produce harmful effects, the material may still be damaging to the health of the individual following ingestion, especially where pre- existing organ (e.g. liver, kidney) damage is evident. Present definitions of harmful or toxic substances are generally based on doses producing mortality (death) rather than those producing morbidity (disease, ill-health). Gastrointestinal tract discomfort may produce nausea and vomiting. In an occupational setting however, ingestion of insignificant quantities is not thought to be cause for concern. Not normally a hazard due to physical form of product. Considered an unlikely route of entry in commercial/industrial environments.

EYE

Although the material is not thought to be an irritant, direct contact with the eye may produce transient discomfort characterized by tearing or conjunctival redness (as with windburn). Not normally a hazard due to physical form of product.

SKIN

The material is not thought to produce adverse health effects or skin irritation following contact (as classified using animal models). Nevertheless, good hygiene practice requires that exposure be kept to a minimum and that suitable gloves be used in an occupational setting.

INHALED

The material is not thought to produce adverse health effects or irritation of the respiratory tract (as classified using animal models). Nevertheless, good hygiene practice requires that exposure be kept to a minimum and that suitable control measures be used in an occupational setting. Not normally a hazard due to non-volatile nature of product. Inhalation hazard is increased at higher temperatures. · Hazard relates to dust released by sawing, cutting, sanding, trimming or other finishing operations.

CHRONIC HEALTH EFFECTS

This manufactured article is considered to have minimal hazardous potential due to its physical form if handling and personal protection recommendations are followed. The principal routes of exposure are by skin contact and inhalation of dust. Inhalation of foam dust may be harmful. Temperatures of in excess of 135 C encountered in any processing or other use will produce irritating or toxic fumes. [Manufacturer] SWALLOWED · If swallowed do NOT induce vomiting. · If vomiting occurs, lean patient forward or place on left side (head-down position, if possible) to maintain open airway and prevent aspiration. · Observe the patient carefully. · Never give liquid to a person showing signs of being sleepy or with reduced awareness; i.e. becoming unconscious · Give water to rinse out mouth, then provide liquid slowly and as much as casualty can comfortably drink. · Seek medical advice. Seek medical attention. EYE If this product comes in contact with the eyes: · Immediately hold eyelids apart and flush the eye continuously with running water. · Ensure complete irrigation of the eye by keeping eyelids apart and away from eye and moving the eyelids by occasionally lifting the upper and lower lids. · Continue flushing until advised to stop by the Poisons Information Center or a doctor, or for at least 15 minutes. · Transport to hospital or doctor without delay. · Removal of contact lenses after an eye injury should only be undertaken by skilled personnel. SKIN In the event of abrasion or irritation of the skin seek medical attention. INHALED · If fumes or combustion products are inhaled remove from contaminated area. · Lay patient down. Keep warm and rested. · Prostheses such as false teeth, which may block airway, should be removed, where possible, prior to initiating first aid procedures. · Apply artificial respiration if not breathing, preferably with a demand valve resuscitator, bag-valve mask device, or pocket mask as trained. Perform CPR if necessary. · Transport to hospital, or doctor.
