Harmful if swallowed.
Irritating to eyes.
Limited evidence of a carcinogenic effect.
Accidental ingestion of the material may be harmful; animal experiments indicate that ingestion of less than 150 gram may be fatal or may produce serious damage to the health of the individual. Considered an unlikely route of entry in commercial/industrial environments.
This material can cause eye irritation and damage in some persons. The material may produce severe irritation to the eye causing pronounced inflammation. Repeated or prolonged exposure to irritants may produce conjunctivitis.
The material is not thought to produce adverse health effects or skin irritation following contact (as classified using animal models). Nevertheless, good hygiene practice requires that exposure be kept to a minimum and that suitable gloves be used in an occupational setting. The material may cause skin irritation after prolonged or repeated exposure and may produce on contact skin redness, swelling, the production of vesicles, scaling and thickening of the skin.
There is some evidence to suggest that this material, if inhaled, can irritate the throat and lungs of some persons. Although inhalation is not thought to produce harmful effects, the material may still produce health damage, especially where pre-existing organ (e.g. liver, kidney) damage is evident. Present definitions of harmful or toxic substances are generally confined to doses producing mortality (death) rather than those producing morbidity (disease, ill- health). Inhalation of vapor is more likely at higher than normal temperatures.
There has been concern that this material can cause cancer or mutations, but there is not enough data to make an assessment.
Principal route of exposure is usually by skin/eye contact and inhalation of spray mist. The product is waterbased and relatively non toxic [Unigard]. Inhalation of vapour/spray mist may cause headache, nausea with irritation of the nose, throat and lungs. Product contains traces (p.p.m) of odourous acrylic residual monomer. In normal application concentrations of monomer are unlikely to approach irritant threshold hence is a nuisance/minor hazard only. CAUTION: The chronic health effects of acrylic monomer are under review.
